Carel-Louis Steenkamp
I am a conservation wildlife photographer and founder of Southern Gold Honey — a sustainability-driven honey brand dedicated to ethical beekeeping, local farmers, and environmental restoration.

Born and raised in South Africa, I discovered my love for nature early on during my annual visits to Erindi Private Game Reserve in Namibia — a place that deeply shaped my connection to the wild.
After finishing high school, I became a safari field guide — a role that allowed me to live closely with wildlife and the rhythms of the natural world. This experience gave me a deep, practical understanding of animal behaviour, ecosystems, and the urgent challenges facing our environment — an understanding that still shapes how I work and see the natural world.

As a PhotoPills expedition leader, I now guide photographers through some of the world’s most inspiring wild spaces, blending fine art photography with environmental storytelling.
My goal is to evoke emotion, raise awareness, and inspire action through visual narratives that honour both the beauty and fragility of our planet.

Whether through my photography or Southern Gold Honey, my goal is to create meaningful impact — helping people reconnect with nature, support regenerative practices, and build a more harmonious relationship between humans and the environment. Or, as the slogan of Southern Gold Honey puts it: Cultivating harmony between people and the planet, one jar at a time.
